Related Product Information for Hydrogen Peroxide assay kit
Background/Introduction: Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is a reactive oxygen metabolic byproduct that serves as a key regulator for a number of oxidative stress-related states. Functioning through NF-kappaB and other factors, hydroperoxide-mediated pathways have been linked to asthma, inflammatory arthritis, atherosclerosis, diabetic vasculopathy, osteoporosis, neuro-degenerative diseases, Down's syndrome and immune system diseases. H2O2 react with titanium sulfate, the products can be measured at a colorimetric readout at 415 nm.

Product Notes

The General Hydrogen Peroxide (Catalog #AAA17853) is an Assay Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA17853 Assay Kit recognizes General Hydrogen Peroxide. AAA Biotech's Hydrogen Peroxide can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, FA (Functional Assay). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Hydrogen Peroxide for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Hydrogen Peroxide, Assay Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a hydrogen peroxide assay kit measure?

A hydrogen peroxide assay kit is designed to quantitatively measure the concentration of H₂O₂ in a biological or chemical sample. Hydrogen peroxide is a key reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced during cellular metabolism. The kit typically utilizes a colorimetric or fluorometric reaction where H₂O₂ reacts with a specific substrate in the presence of a peroxidase, producing a measurable color change or fluorescent signal proportional to the amount of peroxide present.

Can this H₂O₂ assay kit detect hydrogen peroxide in cells, serum, or tissue samples?

Yes, the kit is versatile and compatible with a wide range of sample types. It can be used to measure H₂O₂ levels in cell lysates, culture supernatants, blood serum, plasma, and various tissue homogenates. This flexibility allows researchers to monitor oxidative status across different biological systems. AAA Biotech provides these kits to ensure that scientists can accurately assess peroxide levels regardless of the complexity of their starting material.

How sensitive is the hydrogen peroxide assay kit?

This assay kit is highly sensitive, typically capable of detecting hydrogen peroxide concentrations in the low micromolar or even nanomolar range, depending on whether a colorimetric or fluorometric detection method is used. This high level of sensitivity is crucial for biological research, as hydrogen peroxide often exists at very low concentrations in vivo, and detecting subtle fluctuations is necessary to understand its role in signaling and oxidative stress.

What applications is a hydrogen peroxide assay kit commonly used for?

The kit is widely used in studies involving oxidative stress, apoptosis, and cell signaling. It is also an essential tool for measuring the activity of enzymes that produce or scavenge H₂O₂, such as glucose oxidase or catalase. Additionally, researchers use it to screen for antioxidants or to investigate the effects of drugs and environmental toxins on cellular ROS production, making it a staple in pharmacology and toxicology laboratories.

Does sample preparation affect hydrogen peroxide measurement results?

Sample preparation is critical for accurate results because hydrogen peroxide is inherently unstable and can be rapidly degraded by endogenous enzymes like catalase. AAA Biotech recommends processing samples quickly and keeping them on ice. In many cases, adding a catalase inhibitor or deproteinizing the sample is necessary to "freeze" the peroxide levels at the time of collection, preventing underestimation of the actual concentration during the measurement process.

Is this kit suitable for studying oxidative stress or reactive oxygen species (ROS) in research?

Yes, it is an ideal tool for studying oxidative stress and ROS. Hydrogen peroxide is one of the most stable and prevalent ROS molecules, making it a reliable indicator of the overall oxidative environment within a cell or organism. By quantifying H₂O₂ levels, researchers can determine the degree of oxidative damage and evaluate how cells respond to various stressors, providing vital data for aging, cancer, and neurodegeneration research.
